progress report
wow, wow, wow! i can't believe another week has flown by and i have not made the time to post. i was just going through photo's and realized i probably have enough to post for a month, so i will waist no time and get started.
photo 1 = front room, only guest room, and if you remember this was a part of the original wrap around porch, which we think was added to the original cabin in the 20's and then enclosed into indoor living space in the 40's. anyway, finally a place to perch during the working weekends. this room is the closest to being complete and i have to say i have to say the silent nights are not bothering me so much more....as i am sleeping in a real bed with real sheets..the sleeping bags are back in storage. whoopie!!
photo 2 = entry hallway, only hallway, originally this was also part of the wrap around porch and you cannot tell from my bad photography...but it is a huge space. i love wood in its natural form and color and if this ceiling had not been stained with the dark brown indoor outdoor stain, we may have kept the original wood exposed, but it was just too dark and thus the paintbrush workout continues (same in front perch room). also, the french doors are finally installed. (these were getting ready to be thrown away by our friends and we rescued them and not they have a home where they are already well loved)
photo 3 = hallway progress. talk about bringing in the light...holy cow it makes a huge difference.
heading back to hillside project in the pm. this weekend will be the hallway finishing touches. all the bead board, and finishing work will be installed and we can start the real painting and lay out the welcome mat for the hallway :). fingers crossed.

wow is right. a real transformation. the whitewashed planks and beams are just right. I remember feeling like it might be right to leave them dark but you totally made the right choice....easy to see now.
love the spare look in the guest room. what is that neat thing in front of the bamboo framed mirror? looks so cool.... and I spy a little something handwritten on the hall wall in the 'before' shot...that makes for a nice memory.
I know you're pleased with the progress. Thanks for letting us enjoy the journey without having to endure the sore muscles that go along with it...
great work...donna
Oh my I love your place so far ... so great !!!
Wow x three indeed...if not more! The look of serenity in atmosphere you've been dreaming of for so long is finally beginning to show it's beautiful face. The French Doors add such character and I love the silver tipped light bulbs...nice touch. And I too would love to know what the mysterious writing on the wall says...unless of course it's a secret...no, actually...I want to know it either way! ;)
Enjoy your weekend...it's so all worth it!
xo J~
Lookin' good!!!!!!
hey donna- so glad to get your seal of approval. it has been a burden to bare painting this ceiling. baby steps.
the little thing in front of the mirror is a small marble lamp without a shade..just the bulb, sitting on a ragged zinc bucket that will one day go outside.
the writing on the wall is from our contractor's hardware store grocery list: "3 outlet sockets, 2 sheets of something else, electrical tape...". i wish it were the goals of a young person or a scripture or something old. shoot.
mandy- thanks so much....it is a slow and steady process for us. nice to have a weekend crash pad.
24 corners- it is getting there and the french doors are such an improvement. that room needed more natural light and putting in those doors has made a huge difference. they are well loved.
how is your casa coming along?? hope there is a bit of movement.
thanks ivy:)
love it!!!
Brock Street - you have the vision and the eye!
It is absolutely amazing how this crusty old cabin is being transformed before our very eyes into something so serene....
I am totally enjoying the unfolding, the birth, of this sanctuary in the woods...
Keep leading the way.......
