bedroom, meet classroom

i really wish my grade school classrooms were set up like this. it would have been perfect: role call, then some singing, then reading, then my first nap, then playground, then lunch, then nap......

i love this room. the 3 beds in a row, the beamed ceiling, the chalkboard and you know the rest.

This is a home in Uruguay. maison francaise.

rough-hewn me please

not much to say except...texture, texture and even more texture. the ceilings are dreamy and i am going to give this photo to our real estate agent and see if he can put this rough-hewn ceiling at the top of the priority list. the table at the end of the bed sets me right over the edge.

this reminds me of an old, converted monestary i would stay in in the south of france.

i can't find the image location, but i think it is from modern france.

speaking of

tulum, mexico. i can't get it out of my mind. 3 weeks and counting until i get to wade in the warm, turquoise ocean again.

take a deep breath and exhale slowly.

treasure hunt nyc style

i find it rare to stumble upon great shops like kabinett & kammer, where they have already filtered their finds...but still leave some treasure hunting for the hunters like me.

next time i am in NYC this shop is top of my list. they have some of the most amazing cabinets and prints. check out the link above to browse....

tea dresses are for girls

i have some really special girls in my life and i would love to give each of them this tea dress, along with a plane ticket somewhere warm in the Mediterranean....on the beach, where i would be to greet you with a hug. all of you too!!

this is one of those dresses i think you could dress up or down, all depending on the shoes your wearing (flip flops or your jimmy choo's). personally i like the beach idea....with turquoise water everywhere. i think i am pondering the trip to tulum in a month....

i found this photo on my wonderful sister's blog fringe. its made by a great designer you can find on etsy.com, at sohomode (the designer makes each item herself, right out of her soho, nyc apt. my sister has loved her design for a loooong time and i totally get it...so talented).

shall we

gather at the river...or lake or even right in this workshop. this handmade piece of art really causes me to ponder moments or relaxation and adventure. the cane seat backs make rowing seem like something easy and blissful. this is an update for sure.

check out these hand made boats from rhode island, caillou boats.

letting go

of this old wood box is something i can't do. this little box was filled with herbs from the herb farm near seattle in 1990. it has moved from seattle, to NYC to SF and still brings that wink of joy that comes with feeling anchored and home.

another priceless one.

fire + white

not sure what draws me in the most on this one: the fireplace, the stack of books on the bench or the cozy-leather-broken in chair. i really am going to repaint my already warm white walls to another, brighter shade of white and this white is the look i'm going for.

nonetheless, i am inspired by this photo AND frustrated with my decorative fireplace. somehow i will make it through the day.

shades of grey

another holiday break find. this great plant (i can't recall its name) is a show stopper, but the real object of my desire was its primitive assembly. it is an old piece of fence that has been sun drenched for years on SoCal, with the plant attached with wire and fishing string and then the hook it is hanging from is the same simple wire that has seen the equal amount of weather as the board.

best $20.00 spent this season....well, a close best anyway. with all its roughness, it brings a great freshness to the living room and something almost on the verge of welcoming spring.

window, windows and hopefully a few more windows

here is another one of those photo's that reminds us of how important it is to invite nature inside our homes. i love it that this corner of the room is ALL window, and the most charming windows to boot. i would seriously sacrifice a little in the winter months to have a space like this (a little chill easily solved by a snuggie...hee).

the pair of chairs are so simple, but loaded with character and charm. i would have to double check and make sure they had their balance of down in the cushion though.

this has set the standard in the search for our weekend cabin.

horses, horns and primative side board

oh, and hats always makes a good impression. not to be so cliche as all of these objects have had their moments of fame, but i stay loyal to each of them.

i know this room has a real feminine note, but a guy can appreciate it too and something about this space combines a real old world meets modern sensibility. is it the lamp??

dad's woodshed

my dad's wood shed in idaho is always photo worthy. he stacks and organizes it like one would organize a linen closet. this year he threw some old antlers on top as he had no other place for them to go. i don't think he understands my fascination with all the textures and beauty in the wood, but boy does he know the commitment to fill up the shed every year.

i took this last february and just found it while scolling through my photo's. i love these photo's as they represent his life and work in the country. the good, simple life.

a tradition

whenever i am in so cal visiting my sister and family, we hit up the local antique/junk store. this is always top of the agenda as we are both seekers and diggers. i think we spent almost 2 hours this time, but boy did that 2 hours fly by.

i walked out the door spending $56.00, but still had to make 2 trips to the car as i couldn't carry everything in one trip.

speaking of tradition, i love this traditional native american motif. this is a hand woven pillow that i would typically pass up, but for some reason this one had the perfect balance of color and pattern and the perfect price of $8.00.

cheers to a blissful 2010 and cheers to great finds!
